It began as a joke. Sitting in a data recovery class three years ago, our founder sat listening intently to the instructor:
Besides the technical aspects, data recovery is difficult because customer data is either time sensitive or they don’t want to pay you what it cost you to recover it. It can’t take you 3 months to recover a company’s payroll. Miss one paycheck cycle and they will just do it by hand and rebuild. At the same time, you can’t charge Suzi Soccermom thousands of dollars for little Timmy’s first steps on video.
“Hmmm… If only there was a place where these two areas intersected, you could have a niche market of individuals who would wait as long as necessary and pay a premium for data recovery. I know! People love their porn. Not your average download-it-off-the-web porn, but the once-in-a-lifetime-I-can’t-believe-I-have-a-picture-of-that porn! Honeymoons, bachelor/bachelorette parties, spring break, that wild and crazy ex-significant other. This is the porn that once gone is gone forever. Priceless memories of crazy days gone past.”
At the next break, the idea was shared with the instructor and he laughed and said it was a great idea. The other students in the class laughed and thought it was a great idea too. Months later it was still the source of much humor until suddenly it was clear that it was not just a funny concept, but potentially a very real and profitable business venture. Breaking the first rule of a never-before-tried business idea, he shared the idea with everyone he knew. They all said the same thing.
It is a fantastic idea. You might even get bought out for your brand before you do a single drive.
Some further research into other data recovery businesses revealed that there are data recovery companies who will actually REFUSE to recover anything they deemed to be pornographic! Imagine being an art photographer and being denied recovery services because you happen to work for Playboy or Penthouse?
Whatever shape it took, it would need to get people’s attention. It would need to get people talking. It would need to have a great logo and great slogan. It would need to get back your porn!
So here we are, getbackmyporn.com, Data Recovery With A Happy Ending! The wildest marketing spin anyone ever put on a business as nerdy as data recovery.
About the Business of Data Recovery and this Company
Recognizing that not everyone who needs our services wants to necessarily have “getbackmyporn.com” splashed all over their record books, the company’s actual name is Vicious Data Recovery Services LLC. This is what will show up on your bill and VDRS LLC will actually recover any and all types of data (porn or not).
A quick search on the internet for data recovery will bring up thousands if not hundreds of thousands of hits. It seems everyone is throwing the term around and adding it to their list of services like it was as easy as clicking a few buttons and waiting for the “magic to happen”. It is easy to spot these individuals, just look for the $99 data recovery service, no diagnostic fee and “no recovery-no pay” business model. These people are doing the data recovery industry a great disservice. Like any industry shrouded in mystery, your typical consumer has no idea that they are going to the equivalent of a basement surgeon. You wouldn’t look on Craigslist for a cheap surgeon to replace a vital organ, why would you then suddenly look for the cheapest advertised price on getting your entire digital life back? It is simply a matter of education, and the public just doesn’t know any better. Sadly it is the end-user who suffers when the would-be technician only makes the problem worse or even damages things to the point where recovery is just no longer possible.
How then does a company differentiate themselves from the rest of these individuals and leave a memorable impact and lasting first impression in the eyes of the consumer? This is what we came up with and we hope you like it, although we know there are those who won’t. We can’t wait to hear from all of you.
About This Site
As you may have noticed, the site has a certain informal and humorous tone. We did this in the hope that anyone who would visit the site would appreciate the humor and any potential customer would find the relaxed approach to the website to be indicative of our non-judgmental attitude towards the type of data we recover. A big thanks to Mark Wasyl who designed our logo and our website. His info is listed in our FAQ. We highly recommend him.
